Good solid Italian food, fresh pasta and big portions. Soup was good and cannoli for desert was good. Staff is amazing. The decor is a little cheesy and the bread in the beginning is not good, however overall solid fresh food!

From the outside it doesn't look like much at all. We were pleasantly surprised when we entered. Very clean, nicely decorated. Nice wine list and micro brewery beer list too. Food was very good, except for the "bread". We think it was a cut up roll. We were expecting some good Italian bread. Our waitress was very nice but far from professional. She was overly attentive, extremely loud and way, way too talkative. Her demeanor seemed to diminish the feeling of the place. Made us feel like we were in a cheap diner rather than a really nice restaurant. Some training needs to be done there. There was also a help wanted sign in the window....which also deters from the niceness of the place. BUT - It's worth a try and we will return.

Very disappointed with this place based on the reviews. The food was average home style Italian - something we have on every corner here in Pittsburgh - and it was quite expensive for what you got. It took 20 minutes to be waited on and another 20 to be served. Don't bother with the salad. Small pile of lettuce with one carrot. My son's milk came curdled and had to be sent back. My wife ordered gnocchi, I ordered Lasagna which was a bit burned. We also had two kids spaghetti plates; no wine, no deserts. $60 before tip. This is double what we would pay at home - I know this is a vacation area, but come on.

High recommended. Cheesesteaks were huge and the Lasagna was good and meatballs were large and tasty. They ran out of Maryland crab soup but the place was packed at 8:00pm so I won't complain. The chicken broushouto was a little dry in the very middle but was otherwise tasty. We had no room for dessert there or Kwik Chef which disappointed the kiddos. Prices were ok and there's a $3 plate sharing surcharge. 10% discount if you pay cash.

Good, home style Italian food. This is not the sudo-Italian, fancy olive oil joint. It's old school, sauce as gravy Italian. The food was good, though I thought it was expensive for what it is. We had a big party, but even accounting for that the service was spotty. There are times at every restaurant when you feel like your table has fallen through the cracks. This was the case for us. When these things happen, and they do happen to everyone, it's nice when the staff acknowledges the problem and sends over free something or offers takes things off the bill but this was not the case. The waitress was very friendly and seemed quite competent but this part of her job eluded her. The "gravey " was very good and their was a lot of food, all of prepaired well and as expected. Vacation eating can be tricky, given that their business depends of employees are not there much of the year. This place seemed to have that problem.

Super clean fresh linens. Nice people reasonably priced. Delicious old school Italian meals. Can accommodate large parties and families. But the wine... Have a beer instead.

If you're looking for great food at good prices, this old fashioned home-style Italian restaurant will certainly please you. The portions are large, the "gravy" (not sauce) is tangy and service was excellent. The Shrimp/Scallops special with Angel Hair pasta was oversized and excellent. Our hostess/owner often checked our table for any needs (we had a well behaved two month old baby) and Alex our Belarussia server was very familiar with the menu which helped with ordering. Overall, we had a great dining experience with a 10% cash discount and tomorrows lunch. A MUST TRY while in the Bethany area.

Had the eggplant parmesan, chicken alfredo, mushroom wine ravioli, chicken scampi (waitress asked the chef if he'd make that for us) and the night's special. This was the best place we ate at during our week's stay. Definite must eat place!

Great meal off the beaten path in Bethany Beach. Very attractive place, obviously family run. Great, friendly service and HUGE portions. Had chicken florentine 'special' which was great, included salad and pasta with 'gravy' (aka sauce) . My wife had eggplant parm which she raved about. Look to be doing a nice business and a very cute bar attached to the dining room. Left more than full - will be back!

A surprise find in a sleepy part of the Bethany Beach, DE area. You're greeted with a warning sign that says food is prepared home made to order so don't be in too big a hurry. The eggplant parmesan was awesome and the pasta it came with was well prepared, not over cooked. Our appetizers were very good as well. My only minor complaint is the owners need to study the art of serving red wine. My glass of red was room temp at best, needs to be stored at about 58-60 degrees and poured below room temp. Just a tip to get customers to return for more red wine! I look forward to my return for a home made italian meal.

I've got over 15 years of selling to some of the best and worst food operators in the Baltimore and DC region and can tell you this is a owner that takes pride in his food ,customer service ,and establishment ,I personally had the lasagna and was very impressed with the presentation and even more so the food itself ,inside and out the location is very clean and comfortable ,my waitress was perfect ,not overbearing but rather seemed to be there at the correct timing ,she was very pleasant as well ,I vacation in the beach area every year and can assure you when in town I'll be back ,to the few reviewers that I read with pricing concerns / low reviews ,quality costs and I have to say "you're cheap",stick with the Olive Gardens and TGI Fridays and leave room for people who can appreciate a true quality meal at a fair price ,see you next time and thank you PS - we had a party of 4 and all of us left feeling the same and all of us had a different entree

This place is so unassuming and easy to miss but is one of our favorite Bethany joints. Family owned and totally legit Italian food. MASSIVE portions. Their baked rigatoni and ravioli with meatballs are must-haves!! Mangia, mangia! ;)

This is a great local place. The food is straight from South Philly. This is the type of italian food you will get in the little neighborhood restaurants in South Philly. Homemade pasta and "Mama's gravy", good meatballs and great fish. Nice reasonably priced wine list and full bar. Dinners are served with bread and a salad. The service was very good and the atmosphere is very homey and nice.Give this place a try, you won't be dissapointed.

We LOVE this place! Of course any Italian restaurant that serves "gravy" gets an A+ from me. Wonderful foods, awesome specials, excellent wait staff. Don't forget Breakfast! Bo's Benny's are the best!!

Doesn't look like much from the outside but inside it's very pleasant. The food was very good in very ample portions. Excellent service. Kind of local place that you could go frequently when you don't feel like cooking.

D'Ortones is awesome. I don't write a lot of reviews because frankly most places are average. However, I am happy to write a glowing review for this family-owned restaurant. It is a great reprieve from the over-crowded tourist traps along Route 1, and it's great to give the business to a local, family-owned business. The food is delicious, the portions are large, and the atmosphere is great. Plus, they discount your bill by 10 percent if you pay cash. Less money, more food, and supporting small business. A win for everyone.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
